We typically meet monthly for three hours on or about the third Saturday of the month to play and jam to songs based on a monthly theme. The three hours flys by. We no longer meet at the Kadena Marina because Okilele got too large for that venue.
Please mouse over to the month see the theme for that month.
Free sheet music based on the monthly theme songs is provided to meeting attendees ONLY.
In the first hour of the meeting we introduce the songs of the month so members can hear what the songs sound like. We always have songs for beginners to play (songs with only three, four or five chords) and we also try to have a song in Japanese and a Hawaiian song based on the monthly theme. Those who can play along at this time usually do.
The second hour of the meeting is a group practice of the songs presented in hour one. Attendees have 30 minutes to pick a group to play in, pick a song and then practice that song.
After a 30-minute practice session, the groups then perform the song they practiced in front of the entire club. The purpose of hour 2 is to help build the confidence and skills of ukulele enthusiasts. Typically one of our more advanced-skill members helps out with a group during the practice session and performance.
Attendees are NOT required to perform, but "What's the point of that?"
The third hour of the meeting uses an open microphone concept where any member can play any song they'd like -- in any language.
If you don't play ukulele, this hour is still fun to come watch as the club has a wealth of talent that typically performs during this hour.
